Mosaics in the Latin convent indicate that there may have been Christians here at least since the third century. There is also an ancient grave stone that is undated, but contains an inscription which appears be ancient Latin or Greek. In 1884, during the construction of the Convent of the Rosary Sisters, located just next to the Visitation Church, ancient Byzantine mosaics were uncovered that belong to the Church of St. Justinian. The Latin Patriarchate opened there in 1883, and the Rosary Sisters came in 1884.
